NYRA Boat of the Year 2005 BOTY Rules

  1. All NYRA member boats that race BOTY races are automatically qualified.
  2. BOTY races are:
    • First Citizens Cup
    • Clark Cup /ICRC
    • NYRA Invitational
    • HYC Regatta
    • Dragon's Breath Regatta /ICRC
    • The Oar Race Regatta(both days)
    • Hospice Cup /ICRC
    • 2005/2006 NYRA Winter Series (points will be doubled for the Winter Series)
    • 2006 Commodore’s Regatta
  3. BOTY will be awarded in Spinnaker and Non-spinnaker. Scores are not combined for boats that race spinnaker and non-spinnaker.
  4. Regattas with more than one race and/or a Series will count as "one score" (ex., the Dragons Breath) towards BOTY scoring. A regatta with only one race, such as First Citizens Cup, will count as "one score" towards BOTY scoring. The Winter Series will double the weight of the score for all participating boats (i.e., first place = 20 points, second place = 18 points)
  5. There will be one throw-out score and the Winter Series will not count as a throw-out race.
  6. We will use the "high point" scoring system as follows: First = 10 points, second = 9 points, and so on. All boats that start will receive at least one point.
  7. Scoring will be calculated on class finishes, not fleet finishes. For example, if there are two spinnaker classes, with NYRA boats represented, in the regatta, then there will be two boats scored as first place, two boats as second place, etc.
  8. Only NYRA boats will be scored so that if in a particular event a class has 12 boats and only 4 are NYRA boats, all other boats will be removed and the NYRA boats will be awarded points according the their finishes against the other NYRA boats. Example: A class has 12 boats, 4 of which are NYRA boats. The first 3 finishers are not NYRA boats. NYRA boats finish 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th. The non-NYRA boats would be removed, so the NYRA boats would be scored 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th., with points of 10, 9, 8 and 7, towards the BOTY scoring.
  9. A boat that does not race, (DNS), gets no score, even if they were registered. A boat that does not finish (DNF) or is disqualified (DSQ), will be scored with appropriate penalties, using only the NYRA boats in the class, when assigning penalties. Example: A class has 12 boats, 4 of which are NYRA boats. 3 NYRA boats finish, one NYRA boat is DNF. The DNF boat would be scored 4 + 1, a 5th, with BOTY points of 6.
  10. Ties will be broken according to "The Racing Rules of Sailing".
