The hot racing has continued for with the Hancock
Cup and the Dragon's Breath Regatta. NYRA was well represented at both
events. Due to no wind and a lot of sweat, the Saturday racing
at Hancock was cancelled. Fortunately the wind gods smiled upon us on
Sunday and we had beautiful weather for one race. As usual, our friends
at Hancock Creek Yacht Club put on a great feast on Saturday night. See

The big event of the summer season was the Dragon's
Breath Regatta, formerly known as the ICRC #2, hosted by the Oriental
Dingy Club. NYRA provided 10 of the 42 entries, and several other NYRA
boats sailed for Blackbeards. This was also the debut of Eddy Parker's
new Beneteau 36.7 Brown Eyed Girl. We had 2 days of great sailing
and good food, with lots of humidity and a little rain to remind us that
it is still summer. NYRA tied ODC for the
ICRC team award but ODC won due to having more first place finishes. After
reviewing the results carefully, I noticed that NYRA would have won had
one boat corrected to 17 seconds faster in one race. Now that's a tight
competition! ODC sent me an email thanking NYRA for our support to help
make this such a successful race.
August will be a slow month for racing on the Neuse
but that should give everyone time to rest up and tune up for a busy September.
Fairfield Harbor will sponsor the Oar race, followed by the Blackbeard
Regatta, Oriental Cup and NYRA Women's race.
