Cotton Picker heads
for the finish very very slowly at the Parrothead Regatta
The members of NYRA continue to be busy racing, having a great time and, in general, representing our club well. We had four NYRA boats at the Pirates on the Pungo race on June 12. They were Blue Print, Blue Bayou, Orion, and Water Phantom. Those of us on shore were very glad to see Blue Print and Blue Bayou emerge from the tornado warning, lightning, rain, wind, and general ugly night to arrive at Belhaven around midnight. Fortunately, the clouds cleared for some challenging racing on Saturday. We had 20 to 27 kt winds which were more than a handful for several boats. Water Phantom was able to build on the team work developed at Charleston Race week and sail under control enough for a second place finish for the three race series. Many of the NYRA crew rented a house in Belhaven and also had a great time after the racing was completed and the shore party went into the night. We also held the Parrot Head regatta over the July 4th weekend. It was hot, with almost no wind and the SJ21's extracted their revenge from the big boats that prefer heavy winds. See results on the web site for the final standings. As usual, we also had a great time at the post race party in Oriental and enjoyed the fireworks from the Oriental Harbor docks.
