Blue Bayou crosses Blueprint

It took a while to begin racing this year due to cold weather, but once we started it was exciting. The Commodore's Regatta was held on February 21 on a beautiful, 60 degree, partly cloudy day. The three non-spinnaker and five spinnaker boats "enjoyed" 20 to 35 knot winds for 2 fast races. I was on Water Phantom, a C&C 36 XL, and we managed to slow the boat down by driving the bow a foot under water while running down wind at 11 kts. It may not have been the fastest way to get to the leeward mark but it sure made for a good story afterwards. Note to self, next time you race in cold water, wear taller boots.

In the spirit of continuing their Winter Series domination, Compass Rose won both non-spinnaker races and NFN won both races in the spinnaker class. Their performance was so dominate that the
throw out races for both Compass Rose and NFN were first place finishes. Congratulations to both captains and crews on their outstanding results for the Winter Series and
the Commodore's Regatta.

As long as we are on the subject of dominating performances, Compass Rose and NFN also won their respective classes for the NYRA Boat Of The Year. In fact, Compass Rose amassed 70 out of a possible 70 points in winning her award. Mark Brennesholtz, Tom McKnight and their crews should be congratulated for a fine year of racing. continue newsletter
